Parashat HaShavua · The weekly portion

Read together.

Each Shabbat we follow the weekly Torah cycle, together with its accompanying Haftarah reading from the Prophets and a suggested reading from the Apostolic Writings that helps us consider the portion through the witness of Yeshua and the early believers.

About these readings. The Torah and Haftarah references update live from the Diaspora reading cycle. Haftarah customs can vary between communities, particularly on special Sabbaths and around the appointed times. The Apostolic Writings selection is a recommended Messianic reading paired with the weekly portion; there is no single universally established Apostolic reading cycle. Torah and Haftarah calendar data is provided by Hebcal. Apostolic pairings follow the Messianic Jewish Bible Institute / Complete Jewish Bible reading tradition as published by Eitz Chaim Congregation.
Why we read together

A shared rhythm of Scripture.

The Torah is traditionally divided into weekly portions, or parashot, allowing the five books of Moses to be read through as a repeating annual cycle.

The Haftarah is a companion reading from the Prophets and Writings that echoes themes found in the Torah portion.

As followers of Yeshua, we also read from the Apostolic Writings — the B’rit Chadashah / New Testament — looking at the whole counsel of Scripture as one connected story of YHVH’s covenant purposes and redemption through Messiah.
